Man charged after dramatic pursuit in alleged stolen vehicle that left police officer injured

A man has been charged after a dramatic police pursuit in an allegedly stolen Great Wall 4WD through Brisbane’s west that led to an arrest in Ipswich.

A man has been charged after a dramatic police pursuit in an allegedly stolen vehicle through Brisbane’s west that left one officer injured.

A silver Great wall ute was allegedly stolen from a Fig Tree Pocket address on July 24 and was tracked to a Hansells Pde address in Riverview in Ipswich on Tuesday.

The vehicle was spotted by police behind a closed gate at the property.

The stolen car was allegedly driven through the gates in an attempt to flee the scene and rammed a police car.

The police vehicle sustained significant damage, but it was unoccupied at the time and no officers were physically hurt in the crash.

Polair tracked the stolen vehicle before spikes were deployed to stop the vehicle.

The 20-year-old driver fled the scene on foot before he was arrested a short time later.

It will be alleged a police officer sustained an injury to the hand during the arrest and was taken to St Andrew’s Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

The 20-year-old Hillcrest man has been charged with multiple offences including one count each of dangerous operation of vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and obstruct a police officer.

Patrick Hannah, 20, was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and obstruct a police officer.

His matter was briefly mentioned in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday and was adjourned to August 20.

Hannah was remanded in custody.
