Train family set up sniper hides, stashed ammo around property before shootout

The paranoid trio of Gareth, Nathaniel and Stacey Train constructed makeshift “sniper hides” and stashed ammunition around their property before they were shot dead by specialist operatives, it’s been revealed.

And the paranoid trio used guns they’d stolen from the two police officers they’d murdered for their “final stand”, before all three were shot dead by Special Emergency Response Team operatives.

It is understood the set up at the Wieambilla property was “amateur” and “makeshift”, with the Trains, who left their jobs in education as the vaccination mandate came in, experiencing serious money issues.

The Courier Mail understands the sniper hides were makeshift setups among the trees and contained stashes of ammunition.

They also hid trail cameras among the trees to monitor movement on their property.

Police officers Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were murdered on Monday afternoon after they and two colleagues went to the Trains’ Darling Downs property on a routine missing persons inquiry.

The two crews were making inquiries about Nathaniel Train, who was reported missing in New South Wales earlier this month.

But as the officers approached the house, brothers Gareth and Nathaniel, and Stacey train, opened fire, using a .22 rifle, a .30-06 bolt action rifle and a shotgun.

Constables Arnold and McCrow were murdered, and Constable Randall Kirk managed to escape in a police vehicle after being shot in the leg.

His partner, Constable Keely Brough, fled into the scrub. She was pursued by the Trains, who lit fires and continued shooting rounds into the trees in an effort to flush her out.

She managed to get to safety before SERT teams landed in a helicopter and surrounded the house.

It is understood the Trains had poor quality weapons and used glocks taken from the two officers they’d murdered in their “final stand” with police.

The Courier-Mail has been told the Trains came out of the house one at a time. It’s understood Stacey came out second and was shooting at SERT officers.

They fired at the police helicopter and the Bearcat armoured vehicle during the confrontation.

Police are still investigating the relationship between the three Trains.

Nathaniel, a school principal who had worked at a number of regional and remote schools around Queensland and New South Wales, married Stacey in the 1990s.

They had two children together who are now adults.

The Wieambilla property was purchased in 2015 by Gareth and Stacey, with the pair now reportedly in the relationship. Stacey also worked as a school principal at small regional schools.

Gareth previously worked as a school groundskeeper but was a prolific poster on conspiracy sites.

His posts included beliefs that the Port Arthur massacre was an inside job and Princess Diana was killed in a “blood sacrifice”.

In a chilling post he also spoke about previous confrontations with officers who were “cowards”.

“I have directed law enforcement to leave my premises over the last 20yrs, having no reason or grounds and at times have also asked them to remove their hands from their weapons or pull their pistols and whistle Dixie,” he wrote.

“Fortunately for me they have all been cowards.

“Our country is at a point where even cowards are now dangerous because they are unpredictable in groups, turn your back and you may find yourself out cold on the floor with law enforcement dancing on your head. We are seeing this in Victoria.”

Gareth also posted about the Port Arthur massacre on other websites, claiming mass shooter Martin Bryant was the “perfect patsy”, that the shooting was a “false flag” operation and was a “government psy-op massacre”.

He also wrote anti-vaccination posts and claimed “chemical agents were deployed over populated areas at altitude, drifted 100s of kms”.
