Ten men charged over the execution-style slaying of notorious Gold Coast bikie Shane Bowden will not face court for months after their cases were quietly adjourned.
The 10 alleged Mongols bikie gang members and associates were arrested in dramatic police raids last month and charged with murdering Bowden last October.
They were due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday but their Gold Coast-based lawyer, Michael Gatenby, had the charges adjourned last week ahead of their scheduled court appearance.
The 10, including Haydn Forbes — son of alleged former Mongols national president Nick ‘The Knife’ Forbes — will now not appear until early November.
Police have said it would be alleged that the accused ringleader Ian Ronald Crowden, 46, “counselled, directed and financed the premeditated execution of Mr Bowden”.
Bowden, a former Mongols bikie who had “patched” back to his old gang the Finks, was shot 21 times in the driveway of his Pimpama home last October after arriving home in his black BMW from a late night gym session.
Police allege two hooded gunmen blasted the 47-year-old with 19 bullets from a machine gun pistol and two from a shotgun.
A tracking device had allegedly been placed on his car in the lead-up to the shooting.
Some of the 10 men charged were expected to apply for Supreme Court bail but no applications have yet been lodged and all remain behind bars.
Mr Gatenby has described the charges against some of his clients as “spurious” and said they would be defending them.
He has also accused police of grandstanding with their claim that the Mongols have been “decimated”.
