TC Robati facing charges over Mad Monday road incident

The Broncos are facing another Mad Monday controversy with young gun TC Robati due to face court tomorrow charged over a dangerous driving incident.

The Brisbane Broncos are staring down the barrel of another Mad Monday controversy with young gun Teui ‘TC’ Robati facing police charges arising from the team’s post-season celebrations.

Robati, 19, is due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The Courier-Mail understands police will allege Robati was being driven home by his girlfriend shortly after 9pm on September 5 when police observed the vehicle swerve across the road at Saint Pauls Terrace in Fortitude Valley.

Police will allege Robati had been in the passenger seat using his phone to navigate when they missed a turn and he grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it to try make the turn into Amelia Street.

Police allege the car was seen swerving towards Amelia Street and then back on to Saint Pauls Terrace where officers intercepted the vehicle and spoke with Robati and his partner.

Robati was taken to the Fortitude Valley Police Station and issued with a notice to appear in court.

Brisbane chief executive Dave Donaghy confirmed the Robati incident and said Broncos hierarchy will be reading the riot act to the entire playing group following a sequence of indiscretions.

“I’m incredibly disappointed with how the last few weeks have unfolded,” Donaghy said, speaking generally.

“I don’t want to comment specifically on TC Robati’s matter as it is due to be settled in the courts.

“But we reported it to the integrity unit and the players understand how disappointed I am with what’s happened in recent weeks.”

Robati has amassed 10 first-grade games since making his NRL debut against Melbourne in May and is rated one of the club’s rising stars in their forward pack.

Earlier this year he signed on to extend his contract at Red Hill until the end of 2024.

The charges follow reports of a fiery incident arising from the team’s Mad Monday celebrations in which forwards Tom Flegler and Jordan Riki clashed.

No charges have been laid in relation to the incident.

It is understood a playful wrestling session between the pair took a wrong turn when Flegler took exception to skylarking from Riki as tempers flared.

It’s been a tumultuous week for the Broncos after their departing star Anthony Milford was hit with assault charges.

In a chaotic end to his seven-year Broncos career, Milford was detained by police and spent the night in lock-up on Sunday night after what they allege was a “verbal and physical altercation” with his wife Miri, the mother of his two children.

Milford is due to face court next month.

The NRL integrity unit has received a charge sheet relating to the Milford saga and will begin their own investigations into the South Sydney recruit’s ill-fated night in Fortitude Valley which saw him locked up by police.
