Anthony Milford calls in lawyer experienced in Brisbane Broncos controversies

New details have emerged about Anthony Milford’s night out including the allegations that led to his arrest, as the Broncos’ million-dollar man calls in a lawyer who has handled high-profile cases for his former teammates.

Brisbane Broncos star Anthony Milford was in a verbal and physical altercation with his wife before he assaulted two women and a man who intervened, police will allege.

New details have emerged about the club’s million-dollar man’s night out including the allegations that led to his arrest in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley early on Monday morning.

Milford, 27, had been out with his partner Miri when police were called just before 2am following reports of a disturbance.

Officers were sent to Marshall St in the nightclub precinct.

“It will be alleged the 27-year-old was having a verbal and physical altercation with a 26-year-old woman, who was known to him,” a police spokesman said yesterday.

“A number of bystanders allegedly attempted to break up the altercation.

“In the course of events the 27-year-old man allegedly assaulted two other women and caused damage to a parked motor vehicle.

“Police will also allege the man assaulted a 19-year-old man before being apprehended.”

Milford was arrested nearby and charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of wilful damage, after throwing a bin at a parked car.

He was given police bail to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 20.

Milford is yet to comment on the allegations.

It is understood he met with his lawyer yesterday to discuss the charges.

The footy star is being represented by defence lawyer Dave Garratt, who has acted for other high-profile clients including Broncos Kotoni Staggs and Payne Haas.

Mr Garratt declined to comment when contacted by The Courier-Mail.

A partner at Howden Saggers, he also acted for Broncos coach Anthony Seibold when he was the victim of vile social media attacks last year.

He also represented Broncos player Kotoni Staggs, who was the victim of a revenge porn incident in which a woman distributed an intimate recording of the pair.

Mr Garratt also represented Broncos player Payne Haas after a verbal altercation with police earlier this year.

The NRL is conducting its own investigation.

Milford is the Broncos’ highest-paid player and is due to join the South Sydney Rabbitohs from November.

The Broncos said he had completed his contractual duties with the club.

Former Broncos Captain Darius Boyd said he has spoken to former teammate Milford since the incident on Sunday.

“I am sure it will all play out the way it needs to be and what will be will be, but I have spoken to him and he is doing ok.”

Broncos winger Jamayne Isaako said he hasn’t managed to get onto the former Broncos five-eighth.

“I wouldn’t know, I have tried to give him a call but obviously he wasn’t picking up his phone so hopefully everything is going ok with him and it gets sorted out quickly.”
