Gambling giant Star Entertainment has pleaded guilty to multiple counts of breaching Queensland’s casino rules.
Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said the charges related to the purchase of gambling chips with a credit card, with the offences occurring between June 2017 and December 2018, then again between March 2022 and April 2022.
Star Entertainment, which operates Brisbane’s Treasury Casino and the Star Gold Coast, was hit with the charges on December 14.
It’s understood Star Entertainment appeared in the Southport magistrates’ court on Friday.
Sentencing is set for June 2.
The guilty plea comes months after Star were deemed unsuitable to hold its casino licences in Queensland in light of a damning inquiry, with the government giving it until the end of 2023 to get its house in order and hitting it with a $100m fine.
A spokesman for the casino said it would be inappropriate to comment as the matter remains before the court.
