Police are working to determine whether Wednesday morning’s suburban drive-by shooting could be an act of gang violence.
The window of a two-storey home on Ray St at Carseldine was cracked after a gunman sprayed bullets into the northside property during a dramatic drive-by shooting early on Wednesday morning.
The shooter remains at large.
Detective Inspector John Mison said a team of officers were working to locate those responsible for the attack, while the Queensland Police Service’s answer to southeast street gangs - Taskforce Uniform Knot - has been brought in to investigate the shooting.
Police were called to the residence about 12.30am Wednesday after reports several shots had been fired at an upstairs bedroom at the home, piercing the front facade.
Road spikes were then deployed on Gympie Rd in an attempt to stop a vehicle police believed was connected to the shooting.
Three men have since been interviewed and are assisting police with their investigation.
No one was injured in the shooting.
Detectives were on Wednesday morning seen door knocking homes along Ray St in Carseldine as a Chaplain spoke with residents in a nearby park.
Insp Mison said it was too early to determine whether the shooting was targeted, however did say police were working with residents of the home to determine the sequence of events.
He revealed police “were not ruling out any theory in relation to why (the shooting) occurred,” but had “no information” this was an act of retaliation or part of a specific ongoing issue.
“I’ve got a team of detectives out there looking for these people… I’ve got no information to indicate another offence is going to occur or a similar attack,” Insp Mison said.
Neighbours told The Courier-Mail there were many people who lived at the address, and that cars were frequently coming and going from the property.
“Police frequently visit this house,” one resident said.
It’s believed up to 15 people live at the property, including several infant children- many who were home at the time of the shooting
Multiple residents returned home about 8.30am Wednesday however did not want to speak with media or the chaplain at the scene.
“We’re very fortunate for a firearm to be discharged into a dwelling that no occupant was injured during this attack,” Insp Mison said.
Police responded immediately to the gunshots, and later tracked and subsequently stopped a car in nearby Wooloowin, where three young men were taken into police custody.
Insp Mison indicated police do not believe the trio were directly involved in the shooting, and the car they were travelling in was not the same vehicle caught in CCTV footage of the shooting.
The men were taken into police custody however were later released by investigators, who say it’s too early to determine whether the men have any links to the Ray St incident.
“We treat this seriously and we are concerned, but I can assure you we do have a solid team out there investigating,” Insp Mison said, as he urged members of the public to come forward with dashcam or CCTV footage from around the area at the time of the shooting.
He said the last known location of the vehicle involved in the shooting was heading north on Gympie Rd.
Neighbours have told The Courier-Mail the family who lives at the property are lovely, while Insp Mison said the occupants were “obviously very distressed at what’s occurred.”
He said police and members of the community were supporting the family.
Ray St resident Robert Brady said late last night he heard “two loud bangs real quickly.”
“There seemed to be nothing going on, I looked around the house and couldn’t see any car crashes or anything in particular,” he said.
Mr Brady said within moments, the street was blocked off by police.
“It’s a bit scary being so close to it all.”
“They are really lovely to talk to and we’re always nice,” Mr Brady said of his neighbours.
Another woman, who didn’t provide her name, said it was “a weird feeling,” knowing a nearby house was shot at.
