A group of masked criminals broke into seven businesses south of Brisbane on Tuesday in the space of two hours, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of items.
Police are investigating the spree of break-and-enter incidents across the Logan area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, which are believed to be linked.
The break-ins occurred between 3am and 5am at a petrol station, mobile phone store and optometrist on Logan Rd, Underwood, a supermarket on Sussex St, Browns Plains, a fast-food store on Kingston Rd, Waterford West, a grocery store on Yeates Crescent, Meadowbrook, and a petrol station on Machinery Lane, Slacks Creek.
Windows were smashed at every location, and tobacco products and cash stolen from the premises.
CCTV footage shows two of those businesses having their windows smashed and stores raided by at least three people, with one tobacco stores cigarette supply all but emptied into bags.
Friendly Grocer owner and victim of a break-in Phillip Li said small businesses could not keep affording these incidents.
“The crime is pushing us to the edge,” he told 7News.
Looks Optical owner Louie Park echoed his concerns, telling 7News designer eyewear was stolen from his business.
“I think they were looking for the cash but I don’t leave any cash at the shop,” he said.
“I cannot understand why it happens.
“This is the third time since I opened two years ago, I didn’t expect this area (to be) really risky.”
Initial investigations indicate that the break and enters are connected and involve a stolen vehicle which was seen near all the incidents.
Investigations are continuing and witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV vision is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
