Ky-Mani Puohotaua, 18, was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the armed carjacking of Angelo Justus on June 4, with police accusing him of being involved in a number of other stolen car incidents in the past week, including on the same day as the Bulimba incident.

Mr Justus was reversing out of his garage about 2.20pm on June 4, when two people approached wearing balaclavas and brandishing an axe and a shovel.

The men took off with Mr Justus’ Audi, but it was found shortly after on a street in Stones Corner.

Puohotaua appeared in a Brisbane court on Friday, with police alleging in court documents that he tried to steal a car at a townhouse in Aspley, before stealing a car in Sherwood on the same day as the carjacking.

He has further been charged over his alleged involvement in attempting to break into a Stretton home and breaking into an Algester home and stealing property on June 5.

Puohotaua has also been charged with attempting to break into and take property from the same Aspley townhouse he targeted on June 4 later, on June 7.

The final charges stem from Thursday, June 8, when Puohotaua allegedly received tainted property, in the form of foreign currency, in Indooroopilly.

Later that day, he was arrested and taken to Brisbane City Watchhouse, where officers allegedly found he was carrying cannabis – leading to a drug possession charge.

He was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of armed robbery, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, trespass, possess dangerous drug.

In Brisbane Arrests Court on Friday, Puohotaua was remanded in custody and all 10 charges were adjourned for committal mention in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 19.

Police had already charged a 17-year-old over the carjacking of Mr Justus. He faced court on Wednesday, with police opposing bail, but he was released with conditions. He then took to social media to gloat, posting images on Snapchat mocking police, saying they had no evidence and he found the video of his arrest “cute”.

Police have said they will appeal the court’s decision to release the teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
