Police are investigating a potential e-bike theft “racket” on the Gold Coast after a $20,000 cache of the in-demand vehicles was uncovered.
Officers on the Gold Coast found seven e-bikes, along with e-skateboards and regular pushbikes, in a raid on a Bundall home at the weekend.
Acting Superintendent Peter Miles, of Gold Coast police, said officers were acting on a search warrant for one missing e-bike when “lo and behold” they found a collection of the stolen items.
“They are a real hot commodity, e-bikes,” he told ABC Gold Coast.
“Whether this is a racket or something bigger, our investigators will look into (it).
“We’ve got detectives actually looking into this one. We’ve found a couple of owners for two of the bikes and are still looking for a few (other) owners.
“Some of these bikes can be (worth) up to $5000 or $6000, some of your better ones.”
Supt Miles said anyone whose e-bike had been recently stolen should contact Broadbeach police.
