A woman was groped and had a man try and pull her from a footpath while she was walking at Stafford on Sunday night.

Police said initial investigations indicate a young woman was walking on Stafford Road between Ogden and Macnaughton streets about 7.30pm when a male inappropriately touched her and attempted to pull her from the footpath.

The woman was able to break free and run away, before contacting police.

Immediate police and dog squad patrols of the area were unable to locate the male.

Police have described the alleged perpetrator as a short, teenage male with dark skin and very short hair, wearing grey track pants and a red and yellow T-shirt on the night of the alleged assault.

The female victim was not physically injured during the incident.

QPS are urging anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, to contact police.
