Palm Beach dad excused from court after alleged carpark rage assault

A former Australian Defence Force member charged with assaulting a grandmother in an alleged school carpark rage incident has had his case mentioned in court for the first time.

A former Australian Defence Force member charged with assaulting a grandmother in an alleged carpark rage incident at a school dance concert has had his case mentioned in court for the first time.

Cheryle Anderson, 63, suffered a broken leg after she was allegedly thrown to the ground in the Elanora State School carpark on the southern Gold Coast last month.

Ms Anderson said she was arriving for her young granddaughter’s dance concert when she opened her car door and accidentally knocked the Toyota Hilux parked next to her.

Police allege the Hilux driver, ex-ADF member Mathew Quick who was attending the dance concert with his children, then used a judo-style move to throw Ms Anderson to the ground.

She was taken to Robina Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Quick was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm to face Coolangatta Magistrates Court on Monday.

He did not appear in court on person but was represented by a lawyer who asked that his appearance be excused.

The magistrate ordered a prosecution brief be provided by August 5 and adjourned the case until August 19.
