Osmond Roy Greig jailed for life for Alexandra Hills stabbing murder

A man jailed for the stabbing murder of his ex-wife’s partner flagged his intentions with a Facebook post threatening to see the man in hell.

Osmond Roy Greig’s estranged wife said she was left soaked in blood and her street like the scene of a horror movie after she wrangled off her ex the knife he used to kill her new partner.

Maya Greig described to Brisbane Supreme Court the trauma her and her three children experienced after the stabbing murder of Daryl Corcoran.

Her ex-husband was on Tuesday given a life sentence for the “anger-filled” attack.

“My children have since revealed they did not know where I was and what happened to me which must have been extremely traumatising...” Mrs Greig told the court.

“They tried to return to the house during the attack to help me on two occasions and the last thing my children saw was me being taken away by the police in the car and their father in an ambulance, and our once quiet street now looking like the scene of a horror movie.”

Mr Corcoran’s sister Allison Shorten told the court her heart sank when she saw a Facebook post from Greig which wrote “no RIP for Daryl Corcoran.”

“I will see him in hell so he knows that no man who goes after a married woman deserves any happiness,” the 43-year-old murderer wrote on Facebook on November 22, 2016.

Moments later, Greig stabbed Mr Corcoran to death at the Alexandra Hills home he was sharing with Greig’s children and his ex-wife Maya Greig.

He had used an axe to break in through a back window.

Brisbane Supreme Court heard Greig used a knife to slice Mr Corcoran’s face, throat, back and stomach.

Mrs Greig then wrangled the weapon away from her ex-husband who attempted to cut his own throat.

Justice Ann Lyons said it was very clear Greig had intended to kill Mr Corcoran who suffered 86 injuries and died of blood loss.

“Nothing can ever explain your appalling actions on that night,” she said.

“You took another man’s life in a violent, sustained, premeditated, planned, anger-filled attack in front of your estranged wife Maya...”

The court heard Greig, in the days prior to the murder had sent a series of threats to his estranged wife via text.

He had also left a note which was “essentially a will” in the house.

Greig spent 1629 days in custody before pleading guilty on Tuesday to three charges including murder and burglary at night.

His trial was due to commence on Monday but barrister Benedict Power three weeks ago indicated his client would plead guilty.

Mr Power said he would not make submissions on sentencing.

“The defendant knows that he was responsible for the death of the victim …” he said.

Justice Lyons said the enormity of Greig’s actions could not be mitigated.

“We can only imagine how traumatised his friends and family must be,” she said.

Greig will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.
