Mongols bikie boss Nick “The Knife” Forbes has been arrested for alleged drug trafficking, in the latest Operation Ironside bust.
Forbes, 53, the Mongols national president, was arrested in a raid on his Tugun home on Thursday by officers from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, assisted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP)’s National Anti-Gangs Squad (NAGS), and specialist police.
He was charged with trafficking dangerous drugs and is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates court on Friday.
His arrest comes less than a week after he was released on bail in the Northern Territory after being arrested there on an outstanding warrant over the alleged bashing of a Hells Angels rival at a Darwin nightclub in 2014.
The Queensland Police Service, working in partnership with the AFP, commenced Operation Cyro investigating the trafficking of dangerous drugs identified on the ANØM platform duringOperation Ironside.
Operation Ironside was an AFP and US Federal Bureau of Investigations investigation targeting organised crime, both domestically and internationally.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Nigel Bull from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad said Operation Cyro demonstrates the close partnerships between the QPS and AFP.
“We are committed to investigating and targeting members of OMCG’s who threaten and impact the safety of our community. People who decide to be involved in gangs and engage in criminal activity should expect to be the subject of ongoing police attention,” he said.
Forbes’ lawyer, Michael Gatenby, confirmed the arrest and said he was still awaiting material from police ahead of his client’s court appearance.
