Notorious bikie boss Nick “The Knife” Forbes has slammed Northern Territory authorities after he was released on bail following three days behind bars in the Top End.

Forbes, the Gold Coast-based national president of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang, had been refused bail after being arrested on outstanding warrants at Darwin Airport on Tuesday.

He had flown to the NT with his lawyer Michael Gatenby to surrender over an outstanding arrest warrant relating to an alleged attack on a Hells Angels rival at a Darwin nightclub in 2014.

Forbes was denied bail when he appeared in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday but challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.

He was granted bail on Friday after police withdrew their objection but was ordered to immediately leave Darwin, preventing him from taking part in the Mongols “national run” in the NT this weekend.

Forbes also had to post a $25,000 surety and agree to have no contact with 68 bikies and criminals named in a consorting order taken out against him by Queensland police.

Before flying back to Queensland, the bikie kingpin told The Courier-Mail that his treatment by NT authorities had been “a complete waste of taxpayers’ money”.

“It’s a joke. I should have got bail first go,” he said.

“They put me in a medical ward (in jail) away from everyone else and had to be escorted everywhere shackled and handcuffed.

“They put on my file that I’d been extradited which was totally false. I went up there voluntarily to surrender but they arrested me at the airport.”

Mr Gatenby said police had withdrawn a charge that Forbes failed to appear in Darwin Court in 2015, which was laid while he was behind bars in Australia over an Adelaide nightclub brawl with Hells Angels bikies.

He said Forbes had “clearly indicated” he would be fighting the aggravated assault charge relating to the 2014 Darwin nightclub incident.

Forbes will not have to reappear in Darwin Court when his case his mentioned on October 31.
