A Noosa football identity has been granted bail on a drug trafficking charge after he became embroiled in a police sting of an alleged “criminal organisation” involving a former Fortitude Valley nightclub owner.

Butch Graham Smith, 47, was on Monday granted bail at Brisbane Magistrate Court on 63 charges including allegedly supplying cocaine from his Doonan home, trafficking the drug at a Brisbane unit, and allowing a Willawong property he part-owned to be used for growing marijuana.

Mr Smith, who wasn’t produced from custody, is considered a Noosa Tigers’ legend having won a flag for the club in the 1990s.

He is listed in property records as one of two owners of a four-bedroom house at Doonan where police allege he supplied cocaine to several people.

Police also allege Mr Smith dealt cocaine at the Rolling Rock nightclub at Noosa Heads, including on one occasion to Angus Robert Michael Cattanach, 41, who was also granted bail on Monday.

Mr Cattanach, who part-owned X Cargo nightclub in Fortitude Valley, appeared by video on Monday to face 21 charges including trafficking cocaine at Brisbane between October 2020 and March 2022.

Police allege Mr Smith and Mr Cattanach, from Hendra, were part of a “criminal organisation” which also involved 46-year-old man Jay Roland Cryer, from Little Mountain.

Property data shows Mr Smith and Mr Cryer own an industrial building in Willawong in Brisbane’s south which is alleged in their bench charge sheets to be the location of some criminal activity.

Mr Cryer was not produced from custody on Monday to face 35 charges including trafficking cocaine at a Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill unit.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Wade Domagala did not oppose bail for the trio, on the condition they reside at their provided addresses and not have contact with each other and a named group of associates.

The group included Justin Zakaris, Jamie Sven Muller, Hayden Towns, Samuel Vernon, Elvis Vudzi, Pablo Pimentel, Michael Dominguez (Micky D), Edwin Lazaroo, Christian Collado, Jordan Ferris, Belinda Leonard and Michael Katsidis. Not all have been charged.

Defence lawyer Nick Westcott told the court on Monday that Mr Smith, Mr Cryer and Mr Cattanach agreed to the conditions.

The trio were among nine men arrested on Friday and charged with drug trafficking after an 18-month police operation targeting cocaine supply and distribution.

Operation Sierra Stallion used legal phone intercepts to gather evidence.

Magistrate Judith Daley granted the trio bail and adjourned their matters to May 9 for a committal call-over.
