There is new hope for an inquest into the suspected murder of a Gold Coast mum after Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman wrote to the Queensland Coroner supporting the move.

Tina Greer disappeared in January 2012 after leaving her Beechmont home to visit her volatile boyfriend, notorious Finks bikie Les “Grumpy” Sharman.

Sharman was immediately declared a person of interest but refused to be interviewed by police and died in a road accident in 2018.

Ms Greer’s daughter Lili has campaigned tirelessly to gain justice and closure, but was shattered when Coroner Christine Roney this year declared there was “no public interest” in staging an inquest, despite conceding it was likely that Sharman had killed the 32-year-old.

Lili, who was just 13 when her mother disappeared without a trace, met with Ms Fentiman in September, with the AG now taking the step of writing to the coroners office expressing her support for an inquest, particularly if it could promote better responses to domestic violence situations.

A coronial investigation reported several alarming allegations of DV by Sharman against Ms Greer, but she never pressed charges against him.

In a statement, Ms Fentiman said she was “supportive” of an inquest.

“The disappearance and death of Tina Greer was absolutely tragic and I am aware Tina’s family are advocating for an inquest into her death,” she said.

“I advised (the state coroner) that I am supportive of an inquest, on the basis that it may help to prevent future instances of domestic and family violence.”

Allegations presented to the coronial investigation included claims Ms Greer was trying to end things with Sharman for good and told family: “If you don’t hear from me I’ll probably be six feet under”.

There were also claims Sharman shot at her and even tried to run her over.

A change.org petition started by Lili to gather support for an inquest has now amassed almost 25,000 signatures.

In a statement, a spokesman for the Coroners Court of Queensland said a decision on whether to stage an inquest was expected by the end of the month.

Queensland Police say the case remains active with a reward of up to $250,000 for information which could help solve the crime.
