Police have released footage of cars bought by Mongols associates that were used as getaway vehicles in the shooting death of high-profile bikie Shane Bowden.
Bowden, 48, was shot dead at his home at Pimpama on the Gold Coast after returning from the gym just after midnight on October 12.
He was shot 21 times.
Footage released today shows a silver Holden Commodore and a maroon Ford Falcon.
The cars were found burnt out on the northern end of the Gold Coast hours after Bowden was killed.
Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said the vehicles were bought in the Ipswich-Redbank area by Mongols associates a week before the shooting.
Police have appealed for anyone who knows anything about the cars or can identify who was driving them in October to come forward.
The footage shows the cars driving a day after the cars were bought, with one of the drivers wearing gloves.
“This is a vicious and premeditated murder,” Supt Smith said.
“They were purchased by people who we know to be the associates of the offenders.
“These offenders are associates of the Mongols.”
Supt Smith said the people who purchased the vehicles were not believed to have committed the murder.
The cars were getaway vehicles - the silver Commodore was at the shooting and the maroon Falcon was staged further away.
Bowden was originally in the Finks but patched over to the Mongols.
He left Queensland, was jailed in Victoria, and when he was released he left the Mongols gang.
He was shot in the leg in Victoria and came back to Queensland, while also rejoining the Finks.
Police are investigating if he was recruiting for the gang at the time of his death.
“Clearly we believe the motive is linked to the victim and the Mongols,” Supt Smith said.
“Whether that is because he has left the club or done something in the interim to cause bad blood.
“We all know these gangs, there is no honour among thieves.”
Supt Smith said police believe there were two people involved in the shooting but there were also “drivers, planners, facilitators”.
Supt Smith last week said: “We are certainly looking at it being either a personal vendetta by that gang against him personally or the fact that he was a Mongol and then he went back to being a Fink and we all know that they don’t take kindly to members chopping and changing between gangs.”
As part of the investigation police have released an image of machine pistol, similar to a machine gun, which they believe was similar to the one used to kill him.
Police have also offered a $250,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the murder.
An indemnity from prosecution is also offered for those who weren’t directly involved in the shooting death.
