Police offer $250k to help crack Shane Bowden murder case

Police are hoping a $250,000 reward will help solve the murder of Shane Bowden on the Gold Coast, the bikie shot 21 times at close range in the garage of the home he was staying in.

Police believe a $250,000 reward for information will help “break the bikie code” in the execution-style murder of former Mongols enforcer Shane Bowden.

Bowden was gunned down in the garage of his Pimpama home in October last year after returning from a late night gym session.

He was shot 21 times at close range by a killer armed with a machine pistol, a weapon comparable to a machine gun.

Bowden was a high-profile bikie who had only recently been released from a Victorian jail before his murder and was thought to have quit the Mongols to rejoin the Finks, his former gang.

In announcing the cash reward, Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith from South Eastern Region Police said a number of theories were being developed as to why Bowden had been killed, and he hoped the prospect of a rich payday – or indemnity from prosecution, would convince someone connected to the case to come forward with vital information.

“We are certainly looking at it being either a personal vendetta by that gang against him personally or the fact that he was a Mongol and then he went back to being a Fink and we all know that they don’t take kindly to members chopping and changing between gangs,” he said.

“It’s still unclear (but) I’m confident we will get a successful resolution.”

Many Finks migrated or “patched over” to the Mongols when the gang announced its presence in Australia about a decade ago, but there has also been a move back towards the Finks in recent times.

Superintendent Smith also had a message for any criminals connected to the crime who would apply for the reward to seek indemnity from any involvement, as long as they were not directly involved in the murder.

“To those people seeking indemnity, it’s first in best dressed,” he said.

“There’s no point being the third person coming in.

“We want people to come forward now.”
