Sarah Mudge had previously made chilling threats that she would kill her then partner Stanley Obi if he ever took her children from her.
And The Courier-Mail can reveal Mr Obi heroically got one of his children – who was sleeping in the bed with him – to safety before the fire took hold and ultimately claimed Mr Obi’s life.
In what may have appeared to be a flippant comment online, Mudge’s apparent threat came to pass the day after Mr Obi gained custody of the kids.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Mudge doused Mr Obi in petrol and set him alight as he lay in bed with his new partner and one of Mudge’s own children.
Chillingly, in an online mum’s group around the time Mudge and Mr Obi had taken out private domestic violence orders against each other, the mum of four wrote of how she would kill Mr Obi if he ever “took the baby from me.”
“F--k that, he did not try to do this, because its (sic) just not an option, I’d have killed him,” she wrote when detailing a lengthy story over a family dispute relating to one of the pair’s children.
While on another post in the popular mum’s group, Mudge gave dramatic advice to another mother about cutting children’s hair.
The other mother had asked for help navigating an issue with a family member who had made the request to give the child their first haircut.
Mudge responded with “you could add a ps. ‘cut her hair and I’ll cut your throat.”
Mudge was an active member of a sperm donor group and told members in a post that she wanted to have “as many babes as I can”.
In June last year, Mudge said she was looking for an “African, Polynesian or First nations sperm donor”.
“I’m a single mama by choice and am choosing to remain so until my children are grown,” Mudge wrote.
“I have 4 wonderful children, but my heart is not yet full.
“I also have an expiring uterus so I only have a few years to complete my family and I’d like to have as many babes as I can.”
While a second post, Mudge wrote a lengthy description that detailed what she required from a sperm donor.
“I’m not too fussy apart from looking for someone who will produce similar looking children,” she said.
“Obviously any major genetic family history health issues including mental health is important to me.
“And I’m looking for someone who is willing to AI (artificial insemination). I am not looking for someone who wants an ongoing relationship but I am willing to provide updates and allow you to follow our social media page.
“I am located in Brisbane but can travel for the right donor.
“And we will be ready to receive either within 2 weeks or 6 weeks. I’ve always gotten pregnant first try so I should be an easy process.”
She also posted prolifically as a “mummy blogger” about her home schooling experiences.
Last August, at the time she and Mr Obi took out private domestic violence orders against each other, she wrote: “We’re taking a little break. Our family is going through something huge and we’re out preserving and recovering.”
By October, she was posting about whether she would be forced to send her children to school instead of teaching them at home.
“Such a sad day … we do plan to homeschool but unfortunately due to (legal matters) we might be forced to send (the children) to school.”
In another post she said she believed her home schooling had put her children a year ahead.
“I hope I’m not forced … to send (one of the children) to school to essentially repeat the year and hold (them) back. But there’s not much I can do,” Ms Mudge wrote.
The forensic examination of the scene was completed on Friday afternoon, senior investigator, Detective Darren Ward said.
“We are going to be closing down the crime scene now,” he said.
“It’s been handed over back to the insurance company.
“We’ll just be notifying the neighbours of the situation to date and heading off.”
Mr Ward praised the strength of witnesses and neighbours who they had spoken to throughout the investigation.
“Everyone who we have spoken to has been very good in assisting police throughout the duration of the investigation,” he said.
