A feisty grandmother has attempted to fend off youths she says were trying to steal her grandson’s shoes.
In a social media video that has gone viral, the group of male teens can be seen approaching the woman’s red hatchback, which was going through the drive thru at Maryborough’s Hungry Jacks restaurant.
The video shows one of the boys opening the back door of the car and he then appears to attack a person inside.
That is when the grandmother gets out of the car and attempts to protect her grandson from the teens, inadvertently becoming a target herself, during the incident on Friday.
The video was shared widely on social media, with the grandmother, who the Chronicle cannot identify for legal reasons, commenting on one of the posts, saying the youths had been trying to steal her grandson’s shoes and had also smashed her back window.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were investigating.
“Police responded to reports of an assault at a business on Ferry Street in Maryborough on Friday November 11,” she said.
“Initial investigations indicate that a group of juveniles became involved in an altercation in the carpark of the business around 3.30pm.
“A woman in her 70s tried to intervene and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
“The juveniles had left the scene prior to police arrival.
“Investigations are underway. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.”
No charges have been laid.
