A 24-hour code silver incident involving six inmates who climbed on to the roof of a South East Queensland prison has ended.

Queensland Corrective Services confirmed the last of six prisoners had descended from the rooftop of the Borallon Training and Correctional Centre at Ironbark, near Ipswich, and surrendered about midday on Monday.

The inmates had sparked the code silver incident – indicating prisoners on the roof – for about 24 hours.

The jail was locked down during that time.

Borallon officers were praised for their handling of the incident after it was successfully resolved with no reported injuries to prisoners or staff.

The six inmates will be held in the detention unit pending investigation.

They could face the court system if there are criminal actions found.

The inmates will be subject to an internal prison disciplinary process.

It follows a similar incident in January where the facility was placed into lockdown after three prisoners gained access to the roof.

The high-security prison holds more than 800 inmates.
