A high-security prison has gone into lockdown following reports a number of prisoners are standing on the roof.

The Borallon Training and Correctional Centre (BTCC) has been locked down, as The Courier-Mail understands three prisoners have gained access to the roof of the prison.

About 1.40pm, Tactical Response Officers and the dog squad were responding to the incident at the prison.

Queensland Corrective Services have confirmed the prison is in lockdown, however did not provide a reason as to why, despite stating the lockdown was in response to “an incident.”

BTCC is located in Ironbark, about 15 minutes out of Ipswich.

The prison holds about 500 inmates and is considered a high security prison.
