The man shot by police at a McDonald’s south of Brisbane on Friday night has been identified as Ben Baker - a man only recently released from prison.
Baker, 33, was shot multiple times after he came towards police with a knife during an incident in the car park of McDonald’s in Marsden last week.
His shooting death was captured on confronting video filmed by witnesses.
Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said police received multiple calls about the man threatening staff at McDonald’s.
She said a female employee was held hostage at knifepoint when police arrived.
In footage of the incident, police repeatedly tell him to put down the knife down however he keeps advancing.
“When he came at police, obviously police took action,” Ms Carroll said.
“Knives can be just as dangerous as guns.”
A number of Baker’s friends have paid tribute to him and at one point a funeral fund was set up for him however it appears to have since been removed.
It’s understood he was recently released from prison.
His partner Rebecca Smith said she was gutted.
