Former NRL player Brett Seymour guilty of multiple violent DV attacks

A former NRL player has pleaded guilty to a raft of domestic violence charges before the higher courts in Toowoomba.

Former NRL player Brett Seymour has pleaded guilty to a number of domestic violence charges, which relate to four assaults.

Seymour, 40, fronted Toowoomba District Court on Monday, May 19, where he pleaded guilty to three charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, one charge of common assault, and an aggravated breach of a protection order.

Toowoomba police charged the former Brisbane Broncos, Cronulla Sharks, and New Zealand Warriors rugby league player with domestic violence assault charges about two years ago.

Brett Seymour also coached the Toowoomba Valleys RLFC.

The domestic violence offences he pleaded guilty to were a new indictment presented to the court, with Crown Prosecutor Abby Kong informing the court the Crown was no longer proceeding with the old charge sheet.

He had originally been charged with four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

In late 2024, Seymour’s lawyers indicated he would contest the charges before a trial.

In late 2023, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Mr Seymour was applying for legal aid to help fund his criminal case.

Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyers managing partner and lawyer Claire Graham told the court the case was not ready to proceed to sentence as her office awaited a report.

Seymour’s case was adjourned to be mentioned before the same court on June 20.

He remains on bail.
