The serious assault of an elderly man is being investigated by police after a series of incidents in the South Burnett.

Detectives are investigating following several incidents that occurred between Murgon, Wondai and Cherbourg overnight on June 8.

About 4am, three males have reportedly entered an Outridge Street property where they demanded car keys and a mobile phone from the occupant, a 70-year-old man, before assaulting him with a wooden stick.

The trio were unsuccessful in stealing the man’s vehicle, and left the property in a Nissan X-Trail, which was reportedly stolen from a home in Murgon earlier that night.

The vehicle was later located burnt out on Wondai Road in Cherbourg.

The 70-year-old male was transported to Kingaroy Hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information, or relevant CCTV or dashcam vision, to immediately come forward.

Crime Stoppers can be contacted on 1800 333 000.
