New Polair and body cam footage has captured how police pursued several men on a car theft spree across Brisbane, before a dramatic arrest inside a major shopping centre, as officers surrounded the centre.
The vision shows a police helicopter tracking men in multiple stolen vehicles, driving dangerously and crashing, before police spriniting on-foot inside Westfield North Lakes to arrest them.
Police allege between 11pm on Tuesday and 6.30am on Wednesday, a 24-year-old Mansfield man and a 28-year-old Clontarf man broke into a home on Elizabeth Street, Woodend and stole a grey Mitsubishi Triton.
The Triton was then allegedly ditched after they hit a grey Toyota Hilux on Pumicestone Road at Caboolture about 4.50am on Thursday.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota Hilux, a 23-year-old Caboolture man, was taken to Caboolture Hospital as a precaution.
The 24-year-old man from Mansfield and two unknown offenders allegedly used a weapon to threaten a resident on Ibis Court at Caboolture about 5am on Thursday before driving off with the victim’s blue Mazda CX9.
The Mansfield and Clontarf men then allegedly gained entry to a Thompson Street address at Bellmere before 1pm on Thursday before fleeing.
Officers in police vehicles and Polair tracked the car for a short time before it stopped at Westfield North Lakes.
Two men were found inside the centre and swiftly arrested about 2pm.
Witnesses on the scene reported the shopping centre being surrounded by police cars, including dog squad.
The 28-year-old Clontarf man was charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He is expected to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
The 24-year-old Mansfield man was charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.
Both are expected to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
A third man is still on the run as investigations continue.
