A meth lab and a terrifying car fire have been linked to a fatal shooting at Corinda after two “persons of interest” were tracked down by police and arrested.
A 38-year-old man was gunned down in the front yard of a Cliveden Avenue house on Tuesday morning, police set up an investigation to track down four men and a woman who allegedly fled the scene in a silver Audi.
A man and woman, both 26, were arrested in the two days following the shooting, but police also uncovered an alleged clandestine drug lab in a Mackenzie house during an arrest and were called to a huge carport fire which destroyed the alleged getaway car, an Audi.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the arrests were a major step in the fast-moving investigation.
“I certainly indicate that my two priority persons of interest are with us. I am confident that any others that were present on that night (will be caught), we will be able to work through to get resolution of that,” he said.
The first arrest came on Tuesday afternoon, just seven hours after a press conference at the shooting scene, where a 26-year-old woman was arrested in Brisbane CBD.
After pictures of the wanted silver Audi were rolled out through the media, a number of leads led police to a fire at a Dutton Park carport where seven cars were alight.
Among the cars was the Audi, which police say was the source of the fire.
Late Wednesday night a 26-year-old man was spotted driving around in multiple vehicles and led police to a house at Mackenzie.
Specialist police were called in to surround the property where the man eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
Upon his arrest, police will allege, they found a “sophisticated” clandestine drug lab inside the house.
“It would appear that there’s been a cook of methamphetamine which is drying,” Supt Massingham said.
“It seems relatively sophisticated. I haven’t seen it myself, but my advice at this stage was it required the residents to be evacuated and obviously specialist officers called in.”
Three more men and two women were arrested from the alleged drug house.
Police and fire investigators were on scene at the Dutton Park unit complex on Thursday morning photographing the wrecks and mapping out the scene.
A resident, Lorraine Smith, said she watched on in horror as her yellow 2017 Hyundai Accent, fitted out with Elvis memorabilia and personalised plates, went up in flames with the Audi.
“I came out to the kitchen and heard yelling then heard a bang,” she said.
Her car, along with six others belonging to residents, were reduced to ash and charred metal.
“It breaks my heart.”
The victim of the Corinda shooting had been sitting in his white Honda across the road from a friend’s house, which was allegedly ambushed by the group of people about 3.30am on Tuesday.
The victim went over to confront them when he was shot at “very close” range in the chest, police allege.
Superintendent Massingham said police will allege the shooting was over a dispute, and confirmed drugs were a line of inquiry.
“At this stage, we know that there were certain plans to meet there and there were certain negotiations taking place with respect to that conflict,” he said.
All seven people arrested remained in custody but have not been charged.
