A teenager has been charged after the car he was driving struck and killed a woman on her early morning jog last week.
Police on Monday night charged a 19-year-old man over the accident at Coopers Plains in Brisbane’s south last Thursday.
It will be alleged that about 4.45am, a Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling west on Kessels Rd when it left the road and struck a pedestrian on a footpath near Riawena Rd.
It was reported that the car, after striking the woman, smashed through a fence and destroyed a power pole.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene where the man was found outside his car with an injury to his arm.
It is understood a search of bushland along Kessels Rd located the woman several metres from the footpath.
The pedestrian, a 35-year-old Coopers Plains woman, died at the scene.
Her injuries were extensive and she could not be saved.
The 19-year-old Logan Reserve man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while excessively speeding and driving unaccompanied on a learner’s licence.
