Footage has been released after police cars were damaged and specialist officers called in when hundreds of people blocked streets in Logan during a visit by a notorious YouTube star Spanian Saturday.
Videos shared on Instagram showed a huge crowd lining Bourke St in Waterford West as multiple burnouts were performed.
But things soon turned ugly at what locals have called an “eshay” gathering that police say attracted as many as 350 people.
Police released video on Sunday as they appealed for “information to identify several people as they continue their investigations into a large hooning event and wilful damage of police vehicles”.
Describing it as a “hooning event” on Saturday, police said some vehicles were seen committing “traffic-related offences” and “driving in a dangerous manner”.
Video from the scene shows bottles thrown at a marked police car, and young men kicking the vehicle before it is forced to move from the scene.
Multiple crews attended from Logan, Gold Coast and South Brisbane districts, as well as specialist officers.
Three police cars were damaged, police say. One person had been taken into custody on Saturday.
No-one was injured and police investigations are continuing.
“Officers responded to an out-of-control event on Bourke St around 2pm yesterday. People at the event had damaged three police vehicles.“The officers in those vehicles were not physically injured,” police said in a statement on Sunday.
Police would like to hear from anyone who can help them identify the people in the images, as well as anyone “with any further information that may assist their inquiries”.
