A woman has described the harrowing moment her son was allegedly held at gunpoint when an armed trio demanded the keys to her car.

In the early hours of last Thursday morning Caboolture resident Natasha Burnet woke to a commotion outside her home, alleging she walked out to find her 19-year-old son held at gunpoint, with three offenders demanding the keys to her Mazda CX-9.

They then allegedly turned the gun on her while she got her car started for them to make their getaway.

Speaking on Sunrise this morning, Ms Burnet said they were taking it “one day at a time”.

She said the only thing running through her head at the time was to get the offenders off her property.

“Just to get them out of my garage and it was scary,” she said.

“You have got three masked men in front of you, with weapons, and guns pointed at you, so I was scared for my son and myself and not to mention the other three kids that were inside.”

Ms Burnet said she never thought she would experience crime in her own home.

The family revealed they did not have theft insurance, with the car returned to Ms Burnet in a “trashed” condition and was not drivable.

“It is not good, but from the outside, it looks fine. It is pretty trashed on the inside, I have not really looked at it or touched it since I got it back, it’s just sitting over there and I’m not doing anything with it yet. Have not come to terms with … looking in the car just yet,” she said.

Ms Burnet said her son had now left his job as they both continue to face the trauma of last week’s events.

“I find myself staring into nothing, and I think of the events of what happened last week,” she said.

“He (my son) has left his job now, it is pretty traumatic for him. Hence why you don’t see him this morning, because he is doing okay, but he is not going back to work because of it.”

It is understood one of the offenders – a 24-year-old Mansfield man – was apprehended at North Lakes shopping centre later that day after a dramatic police chase.

He was charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Two unknown offenders allegedly assisted in the theft.

There have been no further updates or arrests at this stage.
