A pair of alleged bikies in Brisbane’s biggest and most active gang have appeared in court after they were busted with $500,000 worth of the drug ice at a major South East Queensland shopping centre.

Beau Dean Budak, 27, a bricklayer who was jailed last year for stabbing the police dog Kaos, and his flatmate Lloyd Michael Foran, both of Carindale, both appeared in Brisbane Arrest Court on Saturday charged with possession of a 1kg “brick” of ice with the letters “NASA” imprinted on top.

“That’s an incredible amount of drugs,” police prosecutor Sergeant Wade Domagala told magistrate Kyna Morice.

Police from anti-gang taskforce Maxima found the drugs in an Aldi shopping bag in the rear footwell of a Mazda 3 sedan driven by Budak about 1pm on Friday.

Foran, who was allegedly a passenger in the car, appeared briefly in court to apply for bail but his application was adjourned until Monday.

Both Budak and Foran told police they didn’t know about the drugs when they were arrested, court documents state.

“He is looking at a considerable period of imprisonment if found guilty of this offence, just by virtue of the amount of drugs,” Sgt Domagala told the court in opposing bail.

Police allege in documents filed in court that both Budak and Foran are “current patched members of the Brisbane Chapter of the Comancheros Outlaw Motorcycle Gang” which is “heavily involved” in illegal drugs, violence and firearms markets.

They allege that Budak “regularly associates” with other Comancheros.

Solicitor Madeline Wood, for Budak, told the court that Budak disputes that he is a Comanchero and there was nothing in his criminal history to suggest he was involved in drugs, violence or guns.

She told the court that there was no evidence that her client knew the ice was in the car, which was registered in the name of City Auction Motor Group.

Budak has worked full-time for the same employer as a bricklayer on the southside of Brisbane and has lived with Foran for two months, Ms Wood told the court.

Ms Wood submitted that Budak and Foran had not been accused of committing any crimes together while they had been flatmates.

Court documents state that Budak told police that he had previously stabbed a police dog to avoid arrest during a “rampage”.

Magistrate Morice described the drug charge as “very serious”.

“That is a lot of drugs, it’s worth a lot of money,” Magistrate Morice said, but she granted Budak bail on the condition that he not contact Foran due to his lack of criminal history for serious drugs or violent offences.

Budak’s case is due back in court on November 28 and he must report for bail at Carina police station.

Sgt Domagala told the court that Foran had been sentenced to a three-year prison term for supplying and possessing drugs in the Supreme Court in August and was on parole.

Foran’s bail application will return to court for hearing on Monday.
