An alleged bikie and one of several accused of the murder of Shane Bowden has been fined $500 for failing to report to police for bail on the Queen’s Birthday holiday.

Adam John Murphy, 39, a mechanic workshop owner, from Wanora was in the Brisbane Arrest Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to breaching a condition of his Supreme Court bail granted on August 12.

Police prosecutor Mark Gorton told the court that Murphy failed to report to police on October 3, but attended the station the next day at 6.45am to “sort the matter out” and said he forgot to sign in, with his usual routine derailed by the public holiday.

“Mr Murphy is on bail for the murder in relation to a bike shooting on the Gold Coast,” Sgt Gorton told the court, referring to Bowden’s brutal execution in the garage of his Pimpama home on October 12, 2020.

Police have previously alleged that Murphy became patched member of Mongols in January 2021, his membership was “fast tracked” and he is accused of cutting up and disposing of the murder weapons, burnt the clothing and shoes worn by the accused shooters James Winston Mau’u and Junior Jasmine Torope,

Sgt Gorton told the court that Murphy’s reporting obligations were to report to police every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7am and 8pm.

He told the court Murphy has a two-page criminal history.

Murphy’s lawyer Mollie Roper, from Cooper Roper legal, told the court Murphy forgot to report because he was working from home on the day, and usually reports to police on the way home from work.

“My client attended the very next morning, made full admissions and he entered a plea at the earliest opportunity today,” Ms Roper told the court.

“He is in a de facto relationship and has a four year old daughter,” Ms Roper said.

The magistrate fined Murphy $500 and did not record a conviction given the fact that he has had no recent convictions on his criminal history.

“I will take into account that you have no previous convictions for breaching bail conditions, you do have previous for breaching suspended sentences but you in fact have no offences since 2012,” the magistrate said.

“You were however on the Supreme Court bail, which is very serious in terms of the charge for which that bail was granted,” the magistrate said.

Murphy is due back in court for a mention of his murder charge on November 10.
