Tourist bus crashes off Bruce Hwy at Tully in North Queensland

Harrowing new photos have captured how close a tourist bus with 15 people on board came to tragedy after it crashed off the Bruce Hwy in North Queensland.

Harrowing new photos have emerged from a horror crash in North Queensland in which a tourist bus carrying 15 people hit a guardrail and came close to going down an embankment.

The Greyhound bus crashed at the Banyan Creek bridge, off the Bruce Highway, in Tully about 5pm Tuesday.

It is understood the bus hit the guard rail and went down the embankment before coming to a stop partially in the water.

The bus came to a stop part way down the embankment and those on board were assessed by paramedics.

A rescue helicopter was sent from Townsville, while police and paramedics were also tasked, with Queensland Ambulance Service deploying eight vehicles to the scene.

Thirteen people were taken to hospital.

A man in his 20s was flown to Townsville hospital in a stable condition with a back injury.

A woman in her 50s was flown to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition with a leg injury.

Six stable patients were taken to Tully Hospital with minor injuries, while three were taken to Innisfail with minor injuries.

Another two uninjured patients were taken to Tully Hospital.

Queensland Police have confirmed they were investigating.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who have relevant dashcam to come forward.
