Two men reported missing at different times have now been linked to a crime scene at a Coopers Plains transport depot – with police revealing they believe both have been murdered.
Andrew Christopher Walsh has been missing since last November, but was linked to the Musgrave Rd depot after police moved in to examine it in relation to the disappearance of another man, Lachlan Griffiths.
Mr Griffiths, 35, from Indooroopilly, disappeared in January. He was last seen at the Meriton Suites on Herschel St in Brisbane’s CBD on the morning of January 17.
He was reported missing by his mother nine days later.
Detectives investigating Mr Griffiths’ disappearance traced him to the Coopers Plains depot and believe he travelled there in a car with other people.
Police, including forensic investigators, have been combing the depot for the past three weeks, examining various vehicles and a boat.
Last month, detectives charged 40-year-old Filip Grbavac with the murder of Mr Griffiths whose body has not been found.
In an appeal for information, Detective Acting Inspector Chris Knight said police believe both men have been murdered, but not together.
“I can say with some degree of confidence that we believe both of them have, within the period they were reported missing, been to that address,” he said.
“Whether they were kidnapped or attended there of their own volition, I guess is part of ongoing investigations.”
Mr Walsh was reported missing in January by family in Mossman but police have since established he has not been seen since November 7.
The last sighting of Mr Walsh was in Slacks Creek and he spent most of his time leading up to November in the Logan and south Brisbane areas.
Det Insp Knight said police were investigating whether the boat found at the Coopers Plains crime scene had been used to dispose of the men’s bodies.
“It’s certainly being considered but … I don’t want to commit to that at the moment,” he said.
He said he did not believe the men knew each other – but instead moved in similar circles.
“Certainly they had common connections in their lifestyles,” he said.
“They were undoubtedly mixing within the same circles of people and they certainly frequented some of the same addresses.
“There will be aspects of their lifestyle that clearly we are investigating.”
Det Insp Knight asked that anybody who knew either men – or knew anything about their last movements – should contact police.
“Their lifestyles are very, very important to us – that (information) will help us build a better picture of their victimology,” he said.
“We are appealing to any member of the public to please come forward who … may have any information – no matter how minor you may think it is.
“No matter how minor you may consider that information, it may be pivotal in bringing these two investigations to a resolution.”
Det Insp Knight said it was a very difficult time for both families.
“Unfortunately in my professional life I deal with a lot of families that have suffered losses – and honestly, it is unimaginable what families go through,” he said.
“And certainly when there’s a degree of uncertainty, or they don’t have the answers, it’s difficult for anybody to understand what they’re going through.”
