SOUTH Australia's Kennewell family continued plundering Queensland's minor riches when Rialya burst back into the winning list in yesterday's Group 3 Tattersall's Cup.

The son of Victoria Derby placegetter Kempinsky hadn't won since last year's Adelaide Cup, but thanks to a pro-active Joe Bowditch ride, the five-year-old built momentum from the 600m and whacked away best to win.

Shenzhou Steeds ran his best race in ages to claim second and in the process announced he is ready to defend his Caloundra Cup crown next week.

Rothera was forced to race wide for much of the race and after looming as the likely winner, peaked on his run in the last 100m and finished third.

"I had no luck and his run was super," Rothera's jockey Ric McMahon said.

The well-tried Ibicenco ($4 into $3.80) struggled to gather momentum in the run, but did enough for Peter Moody to most likely back him up in the Caloundra Cup.

Last week Gary Kennewell's classy sprinter Conservatorium won at Ipswich and this week it was his son Lloyd's turn to enjoy the riches, with Rialya.

It came 40 minutes after Conservatorium was only narrowly beaten in the Tatt's Mile.

Lloyd watched the entire race from South Australia and his father was happy to deputise for him in the winner's stall.

"That was a dead-set perfect ride and he just kept fighting," Kennewell said.

"He's a bit one paced and didn't have much luck over on the fence last week in the Ipswich Cup.

"Joe rode him an absolute treat and when he came up at the 600m, I knew he would just keep grinding."

Bowditch has been aboard Conservatorium in all three Queensland runs and was happy to add another feature yesterday on Rialya.

"He's a big one-paced horse and needs to wind up," he said. "His best asset is his toughness and he just kept fighting."

Bowditch said he was likely to return in a fortnight to ride Rialya in the 3200m Queensland Cup.
