The Everest contender Gytrash continued his impeccable lead up to Saturday week’s $15 million sprint with a strong piece of work between races at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Trainer Gordon Richards believes his stable star is right on track for his October 17 date with destiny after Gytrash ticked another box in his build up for the Randwick sprint.
Gytrash stepped out in a 1000m track gallop alongside Clare Cunningham’s Noble Boy and did it easily under his own team in an unofficial time of around 34.2 seconds for the last 600m.
It was exactly what Richards was looking for from his star son of Lope De Vega, which hasn’t raced since upsetting then The Everest favourite Nature Strip to win the Premiere Stakes on September 5.
“We weren’t out there to break any records, it was just about giving him a good gallop and he did just that,” Richards said.
“He has had the trial at Rosehill since his last run and we took him for a bit of a drive on the float beforehand for an hour so it was like he was going to the races.
“He was pretty fresh and full of himself at the races today but he has come through it alright and looks really well.”
The Everest jockey Jason Collett piloted the five-year-old in the gallop and gave the gelding his tick of approval on Sky Thoroughbred Central.
Richards hopes to put the finishing touches on Gytrash’s The Everest preparation next Tuesday.

“He will have a good gallop next Tuesday on the course proper, against the rail hopefully,” he said.
“How hard he goes well depend on how well he pulls up today but he doesn’t appear to exerted himself too much so will probably have a hard one next week and then back off towards the weekend.”
Gytrash is a $5 second elect with TAB.com.au for The Everest with the Les Bridge-trained Classique Legend ($4.50) now holding outright favouritism.
Chris Waller’s slot is the only remaining open spot available for The Everest however Farnan, which is set to run in Aquis slot, will need to pass a vets examination before taking his spot in the field.
Gytrash will run in the Inglis slot.
