Farnan to miss lead-up race for The Everest after injury setback
Three-year-old Farnan is racing against the clock to be ready for The Everest next week after injury ruled him out of an important hitout in the Roman Consul Stakes this Saturday.

The chances of Golden Slipper winner Farnan running in The Everest are now clouded in doubt after the sprinter suffered another setback that will see him miss Saturday’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott, who trains with Gai Waterhouse, reported to Racing NSW stewards on Wednesday that the star colt had been “found to have bruising to the off-fore foot and is mildly lame in that foot as a result”.
It forced the stable to opt against accepting for the Roman Consul, which was set to provide an important lead up run for Farnan for the $15 million The Everest next week.
“He (Bott) advised that Farnan has not been accepted in the Roman Consul Stakes this Saturday as it has been treated with anti-inflammatory medication,” the stewards report read.
“Mr Bott advised the stable is hopeful that condition will resolve quickly and the colt will not miss any work.
“Mr Bott agreed to provide an update to Stewards later this week in respect to the progress of the condition.”
Stewards will continue to monitor Farnan’s condition in the coming days and the son of Not A Single Doubt will have to be inspected by Racing NSW vets before The Everest.
It’s been a rocky road to the richest race on turf for the three-year-old star.
His latest issue is the second setback in the past three weeks after he was found to have a low grade infection late last month.
The stable gave Farnan an exhibition gallop last Wednesday which got the tick of approval from Bott and jockey Tim Clark.
It was his first public appearance since he was at the centre of a controversial edition of the Run To The Rose first up from a spell back on September 12.

Jockey Hugh Bowman set a breakneck tempo on the valuable stud prospect before fading in the straight to finish fifth in the Group 2 as Queensland star Rothfire saluted.
Bowman was suspended for 20 days for his role in the incident however that ban was quickly quashed on appeal for the Hall Of Fame jockey, who rides King’s Legacy in Saturday’s Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.
Despite the less than ideal first up run, Farnan was still snapped up for The Everest by Aquis in the aftermath of the run.
Farnan is still rated a $17 chance with TAB.com.au for The Everest with Clark booked to ride in the lucrative sprint however it remains to be seen whether he will line up in 10 days time.
