The Waratahs impressive record of being undefeated in the Super Rugby Under 16 series looks to be in safe and skilled hands after an extraordinary performance in the opening round of the 2024 series.
The Waratahs outscored the Melbourne Rebels 16 tries to nil with 10 scored in a supersonic second half which included speedster Darcy Feltham going over twice in less than a minute.
Feltham, one of the fastest players in junior rugby in Australia, ended the game with a trifecta with Ollie Smith, captain Harry Whitaker and Aston Weir all going over twice in an extraordinary 104-0 routing.
Also integral to the resounding win was the boot of Saxon Gall who knocked over 12 of his 16 attempts.
The result sent Waratahs officials searching their memories in vain for a similar result in the history of elite battles involving their academy teams.

“Happy, pretty happy with that,’’ said new U16s coach Craig Roberts.
“We really want to come in and just make sure that get our process nailed down and I think the boys tried hard to stick to it.
“They followed their processes where they could look to dominate carries and be strong in defence.’’
Roberts said he was proud of “level headed” captain Whitaker, praised Gaw for a great game and impressed by Feltham’s turn of speed.
“It helps when you have a sprinter like him who is just so fast on the wing,’’ he said.
“I think our loose forwards really, really stepped up today as well.’’
