Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee will today meet for the first time to start drawing up its priorities for the transformational event in 10 years’ time.
It’s understood the top agenda item will be the recruitment of a chief executive officer as the 21-member board meets at 1 William Street, chaired by president Andrew Liveris.
Vice president and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was “another historic step on the 10-year journey to hosting the Games”.
“This has never been about a few weeks of competition,” she said.
“It’s about the years leading up to and following the Games that will completely transform our state.”
Other notable members of the Board include Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates, Paralympic wheelchair racing champion Kurt Fearnley, Olympic volleyball gold medallist Natalie Cook, and triple Olympian Bronte Barratt.
Mr Liveris, who led Dow Chemical for 15 years and has been a key business advisor to the Australian and US governments, has previously spoken of the “goosebumps” he had from the opportunities possible due to the city’s host status.
He said the Brisbane Games would be “a milestone point in Australian modern history” as he spoke of his desire to garner “a decade of benefits” for the economic, social and environmental furtherment of the state.
