Wade Graham wants answers over John Morris coaching saga, addresses player revolt claim

Wade Graham has urged Sharks bosses to make a quick call on John Morris and addressed concerns about a player revolt if the coach was booted.

Cronulla captain Wade Graham has called on club powerbrokers to make a definitive call on John Morris’ future as rumours swirl about whether the Sharks coach will be in charge for much longer.

Cronulla has been reluctant to extend Morris’ contract and on the weekend it was revealed the club was chasing Roosters assistant Craig Fitzgibbon to take over in 2022.

Since then it’s been reported Fitzgibbon would come to the Shire in a package deal with panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo, while Morris could be out the door almost immediately.

Graham wants to put an end to the speculation as soon as possible so everyone involved can gain clarity and move on.

“He’s been off-contract as a player, he’s been off-contract as a coach and sometimes this is the nature of the beast,” Graham told reporters on Tuesday.

“The best thing would be for the club to make a decision either way, so we can put a line in the sand and get on with the rest of the season.

“The speculation is unfair on John, on the players, on the club and the fans.”

Responding to a report that suggested Cronulla faced a player revolt if Morris was moved on, Graham said “there was definitely none of that talk”.

“The players are committed to the season. We’ve been working since October to have a successful season and after two wins and three losses, we’re not where we want to be,” Graham said.

“My job as a senior player is to keep the boys focused on results because that what we owe our supporters — to have a successful season.”

John Morris is in the hot seat.

The Sharks are ninth and butchered a big lead over the Roosters on the weekend to cough up what would have been a breakthrough win over a premiership contender.

Despite making the finals for the past two seasons, the Sharks have struggled to beat top-eight sides and Cronulla clearly isn’t confident Morris is the man to take the team to the next level.

There are suggestions Fitzgibbon could be named as the Sharks coach for 2021 as early as this week, leaving Morris in the difficult spot of whether to see out the season or jump ship early.
