Opposition leader Anthony Albanese tries his hand at KFC SuperCoach

He’s a mad South Sydney supporter but Labor Leader Anthony Albanese isn’t letting his red-and-green bias get in the way of his KFC SuperCoach picks.

KFC SuperCoach NRL: Meet The Sliders

LABOR leader Anthony Albanese has made no secret of his love of rugby league and now he is trying his hand at KFC SuperCoach.

The massive South Sydney fan has followed in the footsteps of maverick MP Bob Katter and shared his must-have players for the 2020 season.

He’s shown no bias, choosing just one player from his beloved Rabbitohs, and has also made a few surprise selections, including a risky halfback choice that could pay off well.

Here’s who Albanese is tipping for a big year in KFC SuperCoach:

DAMIEN COOK (RABBITOHS, $705,500, HOK)

It shouldn’t be any surprise that Albanese’s first choice is a Bunnies player. Cook is only owned by 26 per cent of KFC SuperCoaches at the moment, but Albanese believes he’s a foolproof buy. “He plays 80 minutes, gives 1000 per cent, never misses a tackle and will have James Roberts, Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray running off him,” Albanese said.

The Broncos metre-eater proved in Brisbane’s trial loss to the Cowboys that he has not taken a backwards step from 2019. He’ll be a massive force and Albanese is tipping big things in 2020. “He gives the Broncos their go-forward, is still young and will be even better than last year,” he said.

GEORGE WILLIAMS (RAIDERS, $333,800, HFB/5/8)

Williams could be a risky pick as he makes the transition from Super League to the NRL, but it could be one that pays off in a big way. He is only owned by 24 per cent of teams and could give KFC SuperCoaches like Albanese the edge once the season starts. “England’s Test half is the latest in the Raiders’ UK connection and with Jack Wighton, he will make them formidable in the middle of the field.”

JAKE GRANVILLE (COWBOYS, $442,200, HOK)

It’s another left field selection from Albanese but he reckons he can’t go past the hooker’s tenacity. “I love this guy’s attitude,” he said. “He’s a skilful player who gives his all every game and should be given more minutes.”

COREY THOMPSON (TIGERS, $444,800, CTW/FLB)

While he’s expected to lose the fullback role at the Tigers to Adam Doueihi, Albanese has picked Thompson as a mid-range CTW and fullback option.

“He was one of the Tigers’ best last year and represents good value … getting better with every game,” he said.
