Storm star Cameron Munster not charged after biting accusation from Paul Alamoti in NRL grand final

Cameron Munster’s grand final heartache won’t worsen after the NRL match review committee opted not to charge the Storm five-eighth following a biting accusation from Penrith’s Paul Alamoti.

Cam Munster at centre of biting allegation

Cameron Munster’s grand final heartache won’t worsen with the match review committee not charging the Storm five-eighth after he was accused of biting on Sunday night.

Munster was placed on report after Penrith centre Paul Alamoti made an on-field complaint.

However, Alamoti has decided not to go forward with the complaint after the game. It is understood the match review committee had inconclusive evidence to charge Munster with an intentional bite.

No other player was charged.

Munster said he spoke to Alamoti after the game and insisted he had not bitten the Panthers centre.

“I spoke to Paul Alamoti after the game,” Munster said.

“Nothing bad there. He said he felt pressure, I said I didn’t bite you. I spoke to Ash (Klein) about why he put it on report and unfortunately if somebody alleges a certain thing he has to put it on report regardless of the incident.

“I have done a lot of silly things in the game and can put my hand up for it, but I can put my hand on my heart that this one is definitely wrong.

“So pretty disappointed. Trying to get that out of my game – all those little grubby incidents I have done in previous years. Been working pretty hard on that stuff and for that to come out it is pretty disappointing.

“Obviously the judiciary will sort that out but I can put my hand on my heart and tell you I didn’t bite him.”

Alamoti told Triple M NRL that he felt a bite but Munster insisted there was “nothing in it”.

The allegation capped an unhappy night for Munster and the Storm, who were strangled out of the contest by the Panthers as they made it four premierships in succession.

Alamoti had a night to remember after starting in the centres for the Panthers and later being moved to the wing when Brian To’o was forced from the field.

He excelled in both roles and stood by his claims that he was bitten by Munster.

“I felt a bite from Munster,’’ Alamoti said.

“I’m an advocate for the rules and the rules are the rules.”

St George Illawarra five-eighth Kyle Flanagan was the last player found guilty of biting Canterbury’s Stephen Crichton in August.

Although he was adamant he didn’t bite the Bulldogs skipper, Flanagan was banned for four weeks. In the aftermath, the NRL judiciary warned that any player found guilty of biting faced a hefty suspension.
