Rugby League fans are now being offered special deals on flights to Sydney for the NRL Grand Final weekend so they don’t miss out.

But if their team doesn’t make the Grand Final, footy fans can use the prepaid fare as credit towards another flight.

Qantas is offering the special deals for fans in Melbourne, Brisbane, Townsville and other cities around Queensland starting from $129 and up to $399 one-way.

Usually, last-minute flights can cost up to $1000 one-way.

In a statement to News Corp, Qantas confirmed it will waive the standard $99 flight change fee on these fares so fans can put the fare towards any other flight (route or time) over the next 12 months if their team doesn’t make the final.

The new Qantas deal comes as NRL Grand Final tickets went on sale today, allowing league fans to lock in their flights and tickets with the special fares.

The fares will be available over the next four days or until sold out.

Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the deal means fans can avoid a last-minute rush to purchase flights.

“Because fans do not know if their teams will make it until a week before, there are generally only a small number of seats left one week out from the big game and they are often the more expensive fares,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity to lock in a flight and Grand Final ticket early in the season and the only thing left for fans to worry about is whether their team will make it.”

The NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final is being held in Sydney at ANZ Stadium on October 6.
