Townsville Cricket: Round 2 Teams of the Week from every senior grade

Wanderers opener Philip Angel was the easiest selection for our round 2 teams of the week after leading his team to an unlikely victory with five wickets and a game-high 42 runs on Saturday.

Angel was outstanding for the Mighties, as was his batting partner Taj Petersen, with the pair building a 66-run partnership to kick off a simple run chase.

The two batsmen were so dominant that they starved their teammates off opportunities to impact the scorecard and join them in the first grade team of the week.

A lacklustre Brothers outfit which was bowled out for 88 saw just one selection, that of all-rounder Cooper Guest who started his team’s innings with a team-high 26 runs and took the only two Wanderers wickets to fall.

Western Suburbs and Suburban Parks each had four selections from round 2 after a high-octane game which saw almost 300 runs scored between the two sides.

Half-centuries from skipper Sam Lowry and Tony Hampson lifted Wests to victory late in the game while the bowling attack led by Justin Dixon (3-42 from 10 overs) and Ben Ramsbotham (2-26 from nine overs) contained the firepower of Sub parks to just 146 runs.

There were six half-centuries in second grade with Norths young gun topping the competition in round 2 with 73 runs while Wests batsman Jaecob Prien finished his game 68 not-out off just 55 balls to earn opening rights in our team of the week.

Sub Parks bat-swinger Vish Nagaraja was unfortunate to miss out on selection after smashing 52 runs off 74 balls.

A six-wicket haul by Norths’ Connor Lindsay topped the bowling charts in second grade, finishing 6-17 from seven overs.
