He may only be 16, but the sky is the limit for talented Toowoomba Mountaineers QSL Youth League player Kizito Oryem.

The athletic forward is one of the shining lights of the Toowoomba program and showed glimpses of his explosive talent in his side’s loss to Logan on Saturday.

“We played pretty well at the beginning, it was a pretty slow start but third (quarter) we kept it strong and the fourth (quarter) we kind of lost that one but we pushed hard till the end,” Oryem said.

While it may be his first season with the club, Oryem is already reaping the benefits as he continues to improving his game.

“I am a new player to this team, I haven’t played with these guys before so we are still gaining chemistry but gives us a couple more games we will be good,” he said.

“We have good teammates that support you here, a good competition as well so you know you are improving.”

Oryem was also one of the game-changers of the TBL as he had several highlight plays with the Warriors.

“TBL was good it is a good competition as well, a different type of play style and it was an all-round good experience,” he said.

After continuing to impress in various competitions, the 16-year-old hopes to one day break into the senior Mountaineers side.

“That is my goal next year, we’ll see if it works,” he said.

“I am mostly playing for fun but I will see where it takes me.”

Despite being capable of pulling off amazing plays, Oryem remains humble is a team-first player.

“(My strength is) playing with other teammate, trying to adjust to the way they play, also being a good teammates by passing, doing small stuff like that,” he said.

While he may be a forward, Oryem has taken inspiration from some of the best guards in the game.

“James Harden, he is good with his left hand, Kyrie (Irving), he’s the main player and obviously Steph Curry with his shooting,” he said.
