Redcliffe Padres Baseball Club rated the No.1 - in both seniors and juniors

The Redcliffe Padres Baseball Club community is celebrating being named Greater Brisbane Baseball League’s Senior Club of the Year and Junior Club of the Year. The double was warmly received by a chuffed president Mark Boys.

The Redcliffe Padres Baseball Club community is celebrating being named Greater Brisbane Baseball League’s Senior Club of the Year and Junior Club of the Year.

The double was warmly received by president Mark Boys who was chuffed at the awards given the greater Brisbane district takes in club from Narangba to Mudgeeraba to Toowoomba.

The 2019-20 season saw Padres expand by 120 players across 33 teams, making it the largest baseball club in Australia.

Importantly the Padres organisation was growing from the ground up, with Boys revealing a growth in pre-season Aussie T-ball program and double our T-ball and Rookie Ball teams.

So rich is the junior base that Padres have two Division 1 sides in both little league (under 13) and senior league (under 17).

“Given the abrupt and disappointing end to our season in the current circumstances, we were absolutely thrilled to be awarded these accolades,’’ Boys said.

“The club just continues to go from strength to strength each season and it is great to see the growth not just at a junior level but also with mature players joining the game, particularly in the women’s competition.

“Our club is built off the back of a small army of tireless volunteers and these awards are really a reflection of their efforts.

“We are so proud of the strength of our club community and can’t wait to get back on the diamond/”

On-field milestones reached during the season included:

+ 11 of 13 junior teams were eligible for finals, with 12 of 13 finishing in the top five.

+ Division 2 under 17s and Division 2 under 15 Padres teams finished in both first and second spot.

+ In Division 2 senior league, both Padres’ teams were undefeated

+ Despite the COVID-19 crisis prematurely ending the season, Padres were awarded three junior premierships, was second in another six competitions and third in a further two competitions;

+ In Seniors, five of 10 teams qualified for finals;

+ Division 1 and Division 3 sides defaulted to second place due to the shortened season, while the Masters were third;

+ late last year the club’s women’s sides claimed bronze and silver medals;

Individuals also achieved, with Lachlan Wilson (under 20s), Logan Griffin-Thomas (Senior League Rams Division 2) and Logan Lokeni (Little League Rams Division 2) named Most Valuable Players in their respective competitions.

Boys also wrote on the club’s Facebook page. “Although the abrupt ending to the 2019-20 season has been incredibly disappointing to all involved in the GBL, we would like to take stock of what has been one of the most successful seasons in our club’s history,’’ he said.
