Brothers Touch Football Club has a place in history in its sights, gunning for a coveted Division 1 double for the first time in the club’s 50-year history.

Brothers is celebrating a half-century in the Townsville competition in 2025 and on Saturday, Brothers has teams contesting the men’s and women’s Colliers Shield grand finals.

While claiming both titles would be a club-first, it won’t be a first for the competition.

The last time a team claimed the Colliers Shield double was a decade ago, when Frogs won both Division 1 finals in 2015.

Brothers will field teams in six out of 11 grand finals on Saturday, while Redskins feature in four – including the Division 1 men’s final at 5pm.

Brothers’ M1 head coach Rhys Bevan said it was special to contest both deciders in the milestone year.

“It’s really exciting, especially being our 50th year, that Brothers A-grade men and women have both made the ‘GF’,” Bevan said.

“We were fortunate to win the semi-finals, both teams have had a challenge, but we’re definitely looking forward to the occasion.

“We’ve had a very pleasing season for the men’s team. We were fortunate enough to finish minor premiers. We haven’t had injuries, a lot of times teams suffer from people moving away for work or other stuff, but we haven’t really been affected by things like that this year.”

The big finals spectacular begins at 2pm at Queens Park in North Ward, with the standalone D1 women’s final at 4pm before the men’s decider.

Bevan said Redskins would pose a tough challenge for his side’s attempt at a three-peat.

“They’re a very competitive side, so they won’t give an inch for the whole 40 minutes,” Bevan said.

“Across the park, they compete really well. So it’ll be an arm wrestle for the whole 40 minutes.

“We know that going into the game, that they’re similar to us: they don’t have a team of superstars, but they are very much a superstar team.”
