PREVIEW
Cairns’ very own Quinton Smith didn’t hold back when asked his thoughts on upcoming Muay Thai opponent Oliver Hanson, with eight simple words summarising his view of his local rival.
“I’m a smart fighter, he’s a dumb fighter,” Smith said.
The bout between Smith and Hanson on Saturday, March 29 will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV as part of a massive night in the Elite Cage Fighting Series.
Going further, Smith suggested that his opponent, who he beat by unanimous decision in March 2023, wouldn’t be equipped to deal with his strengths.
“I’m a counter fighter, he doesn’t even know how to counter I don’t think,” he said.
“There’s levels to it. I’ve probably been doing it for a lot longer as well.
“All the same, I know he’s going to show up on the night.
“I know he’s not going to let himself get into the ring unprepared. I can’t wait to get going.”
Smith said his training regimen has been “non-stop” in the lead-up to the fight, which will take place at the Fred Moule Exhibition Centre in Cairns.
“It’s very intense, I’m always doing something. There’s not a day that goes by when I’m not working hard,” he said.
“I’m up at 5.30am hitting the pads. Morning, afternoon or night I’m here putting the work in.”
While the 21-year-old has certainly expressed a great deal of belief in what he’s capable of, he said he doesn’t put it down to arrogance.
“It’s not just confidence, it’s that I’ve put the work in and I know what I can do,” he said.
As for the prospect of competing in front of a local crowd come March 29, Smith said he’s excited for the moment to finally arrive.
“I can’t wait for another chance to showcase what I can do for everyone at home again,” he said.
Smith and Hanson’s bout, along with more than 13 additional fights, will be live streamed via KommunityTV direct from the Fred Moule Exhibition Centre.
