ROUND 1 BOYS REPORT
Mabel Park SHS had an excellent win, 26-4, over Beenleigh SHS.
Beenleigh coach Blake Trace said the score did not reflect the competitiveness of his side.
Beenleigh scored first and were still in the match at halftime trailing 8-4.
However, handling errors eroded the side’s performance in the second period and as a result Mabel Park were able to gain momentum.

“A few handling errors and some ill-discipline cost us in the end,’’ Trace said.
“There were a lot of good efforts during the game, but it did not help us that we turned over too much ball.
“Overall I was happy with the efforts in only the second game back,’’ Trace said, adding an improvement in ball handling would be important for round 2.
Mabel Park SHS high performance sports co-ordinator Ashley Adams said the boys’ performance showed the depth at the school this season.
Marsden SHS had a resounding 46-6 win over Forest Lake SHS.
Forest Lake SHS coach Billy Vine said Marsden were a step up in class. “We had a crack, but there was a gulf in class if I am being honest’’.
Vine said there were good aspects to Forest Lake’s performance, particularly the middle defence, “but athleticism on the outside probably won it for them’’.
But Vine said it was a good experience for his group who were the original inductees into the Forest Lake rugby league program six years ago as year 7 students.
“They are pretty much all local kids. They are doing a great job,’’ Vine said
